Investment Management

At McKinley Carter, we manage your investment portfolio within the context of your overall financial situation. Our investment professionals have decades of experience managing diversified portfolios for a wide range of individual and institutional clients. We start by taking the time to listen and learn about your total financial situation. By understanding your individual long-term financial goals and objectives, we can develop an investment plan designed for your specific needs with an amount of risk that is acceptable to you.

We will help you avoid the common mistakes that many investors make -- such as buying into popular speculative investments, not adhering to a consistent strategy, and failing to properly diversify. Diversification in your portfolio is a key component in managing risk. Based on your individual investment objective, risk tolerance and time horizon, we help you specify a target asset allocation by quantifying the percentage that may be invested in each major asset class (stocks, bonds, cash, and possibly alternative investments). Once the strategy is determined, we execute that strategy through diversification across multiple classes (small/mid/large, value/growth, domestic/international, industry sectors), with the goal of avoiding unnecessary fees.

Once your portfolio is designed we continue to monitor and rebalance periodically. We strive to ensure your portfolio is on target to help you meet your financial goals. To keep you informed about your investments, we provide periodic investment summaries and quarterly valuation reports in addition to our regularly scheduled appointments to review your investments. You will also receive each quarter our Market Report outlining our view of the current economic and investment environment.
