David H. McKinley, CFP®
President and Managing Director
David H. McKinley, CFP®, is a principal of McKinley Carter and serves as president and managing director. He is also a regular contributor of financial and investment-related columns for many local, regional, and statewide publications such as The State Journal, West Virginia Executive Magazine, Wheeling News-Register and Intelligencer, Martins Ferry Times Leader in Ohio, and Dominion Post in Morgantown, as well as a guest speaker for various business programs throughout the state.
Before founding McKinley Carter, David was the managing director of McKinley Investment Group where he provided financial planning and portfolio management services to high net worth families, institutions and non-profit organizations. Previously, he served as a vice president of investments at a national investment firm and an investment analyst with a regional bank and trust's investment department.
David was recognized by West Virginia Executive Magazine as a Young Gun in 2002, Ogden Newspaper's Faces of the Future in 2005, and a 2006 member of Generation Next of West Virginia business owners and executives by West Virginia Media Holding's business newspaper, The State Journal.
David is a graduate of West Liberty State College and the Certified Financial Planning Professional Program of the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado. He has completed advanced fiduciary training and earned the designation of ACCREDITED INVESTMENT FIDUCIARY TM through the Center for Fiduciary Studies at the University of Pittsburgh's Katz Graduate School of Business, has completed advanced investment consulting training through the Investment Management Consultants Association at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and is a candidate for the designation of Certified Investment Management Analyst through the Investment Management Consultants Association.
David is a member of the Financial Planning Association, Estate Planning Council of the Upper Ohio Valley, Wheeling Area and West Virginia Chambers of Commerce, Wheeling Rotary club and Leadership West Virginia. He serves on the board of directors for Regional Economic Development Partnership, West Liberty State College Foundation, Business Advisory Council at West Liberty State College and the Financial Planning Association of Pittsburgh.
David is married to Meredith (Javersak) and has two children.
Will Carter, Esq.
Director of Wealth Management
Will Carter is a principal of McKinley Carter and serves as director of wealth management. He is a regular contributor of wealth management and trust-related columns for West Virginia's statewide business paper, The State Journal, and is invited often to speak on a wide range of financial, business, philanthropic and leadership matters. He also serves on the board of directors of the National Independent Trust Company, McKinley Carter's affiliated provider of trust services.
Before founding McKinley Carter, Will was the president and CEO of Kanawha Investment and Trust where he applied a recognized history of professional and organizational performance. Prior to forming Kanawha Investment and Trust, Will served as an interest lawyer and policy advisor to WV Governor Gaston Caperton.
Will has a law degree from New York University and bachelors and masters degrees in History from Harvard University. He is a certified business professional and member of the Aji Network (www.theajinetwork.com) and a member of the WV State Medical Foundation, the Charleston Area Medical Center Foundation, the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, Edgewood Summit and the United Way.
Raised in Charleston, West Virginia, he now lives in rural Putnam County, West Virginia with his wife, Martha, and daughter.
